THE METHOD

the section of woods I was working to clear last week was chosen for a couple reasons. the time before, the section i cleared made sense to clear, but it was a little impulsive, mostly chosen because i was right there, checking, as i was, the paws i had planted earlier in spring. this time i was closer to the house. i reasoned that it would be easier to keep tabs on the regrowth in the coming months and years.

it is also is the area which may prove to be the part of the orchard with the most overt beauty. those massive beech and poplar are incredible. So I figured it was the best bang for my work buck.

this area might eventually have a view impressive enough for a deck like platform structure for hanging out. tiered perhaps. the possibility of this being a place where people might pay a few dollars to hang out byob style intrigues me. probably would not be a serious source of revenue, but who knows.

I think I made pretty good progress last time I was down. I would like to see if i could increase the amount cut in a given amount of time. i think returning to swinging tools might be important there. I think maybe there were a couple bigger trees that needed to come down. clearing my way that direction would be a move.

to get into the habit of talking in terms of farm coordinates, (f,F) and (g,F) are the areas (i think) that this work has gone on. (f,G) and (g,G) might be a direction to go. i think, if i go down tomorrow, i will check out the "swamp deck" in my maps. that spot crossed my mind the other day in terms of ease of accessibility.
